Willis Otieno is a versatile Kisumu based visual artist with many years of experience. He harnesses the beauty of colours to create dazzling artworks that portray the grace and native ambience of African culture.
He uses his artistic dexterity, combined with his ability for blending colours to recreate the dynamic African Woman’s life against the backdrop of the indigenous African landscape. Willis was trained in fine arts at the Mwangaza School of Fine Art, Kisumu and graduated in 1999. His dream is to showcase the elegance of African women in art exhibitions all over the world.
Willis’ work has been exhibited in Kenya but also abroad, e.g., at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, Kigali, Kampala, Dar es Salaam and has also been featured in Kenya’s national newspapers and TV stations. His paintings are created with strong expressions that show profound appreciation of the African woman; they are greatly influenced by his deep desire to export the identity of African beauty and lifestyle in immersive postures, captured on canvas through acrylic paints.
Willis is also a founder member of organisations like DeroArts and the Lake Region Artists Consortium. He is the proprietor of Takataka Treasure Arts in Kenya, where he uses waste to create art, thereby focusing on chicken eggshells mosaic.
